Alamo City Coalition for Economic Self-Sufficiency

(ACCESS)

The goal of ACCESS is to increase the financial stability of low-income working families in San Antonio & Bexar County.  The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) is a vital part of this effort.  The VITA volunteers provide free income tax assistance to taxpayers, and help them claim important tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.

The focal point for this effort is the Coalition’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. Through the VITA program, volunteers provide free income tax assistance to      taxpayers.

The VITA program continues to expand each year.  During the 2008 tax filing season, VITA volunteers operated 32 VITA sites located throughout the city and completed more than 43,300     returns, a 15% increase over the number of returns completed last year.  More than $61,000,000 in refunds was returned to the San Antonio Community through local VITA locations.

Without the help of al those who volunteer for VITA, many of whom return each tax-filing season, VITA could not continue to expand, touching an increasing number of San Antonio’s lower income working families and individuals.
